Question
is doing a beer run a felony or could it be considered a robbery?

Answer
Ray,

Each state has slightly different variables and definitions in their state laws.  Robbery common law usage implies use of weapon, actual or implied, including personal weapons. Theft common law definition would be stealing by stealth, although arguably most thieves are not that stealthy.  To confuse the issue just a little more stealing from inside a building or a car can be a felony if force is used to make entry.  In Michigan any amount of force, pushing a drape aside is sufficient for felony level charges.  Also some thefts are classified as felonies based on the value of what was taken. Over 100 dollar or 500 dollars depending on the state.  So with out knowing a lot more detail that is the best answer I can give.  So when i doubt just buy the beer.
