I am a high school English teacher in Colorado Springs, Colorado. I am working on a short story and wanted to know what the best book would be for courtroom protocol and procedures. I did purchase a book that will be helpful, Gerry Spence: How to Argue and Win Every Time; although, it is not giving me the exact process used for courtroom trials. I am interested in knowing who says what when, do you have any suggestions?

The most direct and understandable way would be to visit your local law library and/or courthouse. You should ask to view the transcripts of whatever kind of trial (either civil or criminal) that you are interested in to see the actual trial process open to close as to develop your knowlege of the procedures.
Also, contact the jury clerk at your local courthouse and explain your need they should be able to provide you with a juror's handbook that will explain much of the trial procedure.

Your best bet once you know the process is to read over full courtroom transcripts to begin to understand the subtle nuances that occur. You should also request to see a copy of your jurisdiction's Rules of Trial Procedure (I have the link below).
