Question
My brother(19) has a restraining order that was put oh him by the mother of his girlfriend who is 17. They just had a baby together in February. The girlfriend will not take the retraining order off and uses is to hurt my brother. Such as if he wont call her from the house all night and prove where he she will call the cops telling them that he contacted her. She is now stalking him, walking by my house when he is here, and even not here. Also walking by his house...  she is from a different town then both of us. Is it true that in the state of Maine there is nothing that my brother can do if she contacts him? Also, if I live in New Hampshire does the Maine retraining order abide by NH laws? Also he does not have a restraining order against his girlfriend, or one against him for the child they have together How do you deal with people like this?

Unfortunately your brother is in a tough position.  Although New Hampshire may recognize and give full faith and credit to Maine's restraining order there is a chance that it may not.

Listen, your best bet here is to cut off all contact with the girlfriend and her mother.  You said it yourself she uses it to hurt your brother.  Play by the rules so he can't get hurt.  If she is harassing you contact your local police department to contact her on your behalf.  Document all telephone calls and contacts and keep a record.  Retain the services of an attorney if your brother wants visitation rights to the child.

Don't fall into her trap of toying and punishing.  There is an emotional storm brewing here and it is best to work with the authorities before someone goes to jail.
