Criminal Law/defense attorney needed
Expert: Robin Sexton - 5/19/2008
QuestionI am just wanting an opinon on my situation, I was called on Friday by a police detective saying that he had probable cause to arrest me, he would not tell me what the charges were just that it had to do with my prior employer and that I needed to come in and talk with him. He told me I needed to turn myself in so he didn't have to come and get me in front of my children or at my new place of employment, so he told me to pick the day and time, so I told him I would come talk to him this Friday, he has promised me that if I turn myself in he will finger print me, book me and then we can talk and he gave me his word that I would be able to go home to my family. In talking to my dad he has told me that I need to call a defense attorney and have the defense attorney call this detective to find out what the charges are, Dad has also told me under no circumstanses should I go talk to this detective without an attorney present? can you please tell me if my dad is right, or should i just go see what the detective has to say and trust that I will be able to go home to my family?
AnswerNikki,
I am not going to disagree with your father. Truthfully the officer made it sound as if there are all ready charges so anything you have to say does not appear like it will change anything. Having an attorney step in at this point will not make things worse. You need detail advise from someone familiar with your state and your courts.
I would begin with a consultation with local attorney. If it has to do with a past employer it sounds like embezzlement or fraud. If you can remember anything share it with your attorney. Tell them the complete truth so they are well aware of the problem and they can better able to assist.
Good Luck
