Subject: problem with paperwork

Question
In court on Friday I was sentenced to 5 days in jail and was told to report to the jail by 9pm that night. I arrived at 8:30 and was told to go home because no paperwork from the clerk's office was there stating I should be there. What will happen now? Do I need to return to the jail on Monday? If the paperwork is lost do I still serve my sentence?

Answer
Patty,

Just to make it easy on yourself I would contact the district attorney's office to make sure the paperwork is in place and explain to them that the jail turned you away.  Let them get their official affairs in order and then have them contact you.  It is not fair to you to have to be inconvenienced any more than necessary at this point because of the official bureaucratic "red-tape" and other entanglements.  They know your information.  Let them call you when they are ready to have you come in.

Best of luck.

JP
