Question
On a theft under $500, what is the statute of limitations?  THe charge is from 1999.

Answer
Michelle,

Each state and the federal government has different laws covering the their statute of limitations.  Further each entity defines theft of under 500 dollars differently.  It could be a felony in one state and a misdemeanor in another.  Also if there are other variables such as from an employer or an estate that could change something's also.  However in most states that i am aware of 5 years is pretty standard and 9-10 years is probably beyond most statutes.

Hope this helped
