Question
Hi I'm Ashley and i want to know do i have to be a police officer to be a homicide detective? thanks

Answer
Ashley,

Homicide detectives are police officers.  I think what you want to know is do you have to start out as a uniform / patrol officer before you can become a detective.  In all agencies the answer would be yes.  The patrol function is a vital training / educational step into becoming a detective.  You develop a lot of your skills and knowledge as a patrol officer.  Actually someday's I think the patrol function is the best job.

feel free to ask a follow up if you need to.
