Question
is it normal for someone to be placed on probation for 5 years? isn't there some kind of set time limits on that?

Answer
Mickie,

I apologize for my delay in answering your question.  It was unavoidable.

Probation can be any term of years including up to life.  It is an alternate to jail so what ever a person can recieve as far as a jail sentence they could receive as probation.  It can not be longer then the actual maximam for the statutory maximum for that particualr crime.  What i mean is that if a burglary has a 15 year max, the probation period could not be longer then 15 years.

Hope that helps and again i apologize for  the delay
