Question
I'm currently in Afghanistan serving the Army as a paratrooper for Charlie Co 3-509 out of Ft. Richardson, Alaska. In Jan or Feb 2010 my wife and I will be driving my truck back from Las Vegas to Alaska. I want to carry my personal firearm for safety reasons as I will have my wife with me, and will be moving expensive/sentimental belongings back to AK. My question is this: Alaska has no laws stopping me from carrying a concealed weapon and Nevada has no law stopping me from carrying a weapon that is visible (in plain sight). Can I legally carry my weapon across the USA with me loaded?

Answer
Matthew,

Each state is going to be different.  They will have differing definitions of what is considered concealed.  For example in Michigan, carrying in a vehicle with out a permit is considered a concealed weapon.  Arrest and forfeiture of weapon.  The easiest way is to have the weapon secured, unloaded in the trunk or other inaccessible place.  Does not sound like what you want to do.
Here is a link to the NRA's site that lists each state carry laws.

Hope that helps

Good luck
