Question
I just received notice that I have a warrant out for my arrest for a speeding ticket that I allegedly received 2/21/01 - that is over 9 years ago. The ticket is for $194 - they said I have 2 failure to appears for court. Wouldn't the cost of the ticket be more if they actually issued those documents? Also, how was I able to renew my drivers license, be on a jury, and never know about this? It does not seem right. Please advise. Thank you.

Answer
Dina,

You have to understand this is government and can be pretty sloppy.  Best guess the paperwork got lost and the bureaucracy didn't catch it.  If the paperwork wasn't done then the license wasn't suspended therefore no record to check.
Couple of things, first get a copy of the ticket and see if you can find out if the officer who issued it is still around.  If not around then there is no witness, contest the ticket.  You also need to get copies of the notices from the court.  start by contesting the ticket.  Once you have reviewed the records then you can decide if you need to contest the ticket, hire an attorney or just pay the ticket.  After 9 years there should be not points and you may be able to negotiate some other charge.

Good luck
