Question i am 50 years old and have never be3en in trouble in my life --i alawyas try to do the right thing - i have no trafic tickets etc etc --i have no recor and there is no reason for me to have one -
i moved into t (you can leave the count out or include it a suburb of Chicago 8years ao that i was not familiar with -it semed like anice aea and he isnot that much crime but there are problms apparently --I thoght i was moving into a small town but i found too lae that i was not really in that was not relly a suburb but a part of unincorproated jurisdictiomn patrooled by a large shriffs police or group of deputis that are very macho bahaving and hard core -i am big and musclkar but i am an athletee--have nver ever beat anyoine up but apparently i look intimidating to othes at time - i am 61 and 230 and do not walk arond intight tshirts or flex around people but i am strong enogh not to have to wirry about being hurt by ohters and know how to avoid trouble --but when i moved in here i did find tha happening with the police --on occassion i asked a simple question and was riudiculed and treate like i was not conducting myslef properly --this is only my shiffs department not the souronding departments that behaved this way --for example if i ran out of gas near my hone i would be called an iddot and told my car shold be towed where the suburb right next to me would an has in the past been kind enogh to open a loked door , help me to find gas when i ran out and even helped me find the owner of a dog that i found -i am involved with animal rcue on a small scale --i try to help --
since oving her i feel as if i am a convict in a cell and officers driving by dont seem like they are looking out For is nbiut instead behave and act as if they arlooking at us and onotring us --i can give you story after story --i had an id theft issue amd wanted to hav e a watvch pout on by the credit beurous --you need a police reprot for this and oi called for a deputy ast his convenience --i cgavbe him proof and explaionmed what i needed and he sort of made a crack about me being stupid amd what did i thik he was going to do etc etc --i explained that credit bearous need police reports and more -(icdently this department does not really have a walk in aea to make rutine loss reportw ad file thgs so one is required to call and its almoist frightening to do so ) - routine matters can turn into truly unpleanat incidents from time to time and thes thigs should not hadppen--this is a department with 400 or more officers and a larger staff but no real internal affairs amnd i dont know whjat to do biut ne scared as tjere see,s tp nbe no recourse --i have don e norwrong and can be effective making changes if I must but i pick and choose my battles and heree i feel i ,ust try to stay safe --
ther are lots of genuine mixups here and the d3parment does of cours3 hav some good men and women but its difficult to knowhwat could happen and who one will gert if he or she is in need of help --with regard to me i have never ever been treated thisway and it seems they thnk that theuy know mw and that they know somethg about me that is just wong --a frind tried to intercededa-a nbest frind who ha known me for years and she was otld she wa sbieng bulshitted bu me --the whole thg is bizarrre.
soon afer moving intothis homne i became very illk and was almost paralyzed --i had serous spinal disease and was in true danger -during this time i wasunale to walk and had to stop working and when thgs got bad the police bceame worse--i was almost neaten once or twice amnd threatedn and told that i was in no conditon to drive time and time again when they saw i was handicapped -=-=i was boit impoared in anyway --they behaved asif i was crazy intoxicated or on drugs in spite of my explaing my medical conditon and i ultimatelhyhad to get a handicapped tag not for parking but with the hope that i would beleft alone --my physicain issued this for ,me
-I becamse ill and was unable to work and even had difficulty walking for a period of time --spoinal cord narrowing cuased a strok e in my spinal cord and by the grace of g-d y physicins found the case o f y immes etc etc --
during that time i was not walking straigt and apeared to have somthign like cerbal palsy --i had a kind of asceneding spastic paralysis and the police started to pull me over again and again and harass me to no end --i was always polite and courtous and i drirve a car that isnt the neartest but it is clean and current and ell maintaine but this doesnt seem to help -i once had a flkickering headlight and was held for over an hor by 6 squad cars a mile from my home --things arent that frequent but they happen often enoght g to make thgs unahpoy and put a dingy cast on kivbing out here --i would lie to protect myself and have prtection and wish thgs would change but it seems i am too vulneranble --
again any suggestions wll be aprpceciate --i am not loking to litagate or sue anyone i kjust wnat thew quiet enjoyment of my home that the constiution is supposed to give me a right to enjoy provided that i am law abding --thes lkid of policeendanger the nice ones and themselves but they dont understand hat thier effect is
i have been told to move away and over and over again i have been subjected to strange stops and searches and cops asking "where are the drugs " - d on one occassion and now on another I was chjaged with dsoderly conduct and of couse becuse nothg eer took place the case was tossed 9smissed)
--ther was no reall life comnplaing witness --recently a fellow with an issue who had been hird to kandscpae for me bey a reltiv in spite of my insintcts and in fact pleading that he not be permiteed on my propety to issue with me telling me that i said somethg bad about him --this gu and his kids have crimninal recoirs i learnd and the crmes thye have comitted include roberry --noetheless he was able to just call the police and say i did somethg or another (who knows what becuse i wasnot the and they toolk me out of my home on a sunday evening with no shoes on and didnt even let me lock my doors to my home and do somethg to lkeep my dogs in the house ==the retiong ofice taunted me with the prospect oif picking them up in he morng from ani,mal control --ayway this fellow that was the landscaper at one time we oi was ill indeed stole from me whe he was here and he is a criminal as re his chilren --i sensed it but after the recnt evnt i asked thecourt clerk abou ackgorund and they sad one of them was in jail and convicted of roberry or burglary --when i was ill he took interest in a roto tiler that i bought it was not inexpensive and had a n8mber of attachments -i kept it ina lock shd in my yrd behind a lokd fenc but it got out -
t --soon after his vist i noticed it gone and when i exhsed all else i asked the guy ina not too frindly tone about the fact that i needed the rototiller i loandeout to him back promopt;ly nd it was eturned --he was also told noyt trreturn again but as he is a neghbor i tri to make small talk and foget aojut the thgs that too, place without having him ever on muy property there was indeed more mising later and recently ater a ew year of peicehe is roblke again -- recentlhy he sort of waved as i droe by --we live on the same street and he suddenly got wild for some reason saying he knew i said bad thgs about him tp a cliet and oi and that i spoike badly of him etc ec =-i ad this wasnot true as it want but he kept saying he wasgiong to kick my butt and other worse comments --i ignored him and drove off with aclient and he truned on me threatening to beat me and who knows what but i ignorred him --when i had to pass his home walking my dog two weks later ithit the famn --h came sormnig out to the dsidewalk with his dog (one he thoghjt is mean and the dog was kissing mine-i have this very good natured black lab with a vferuy funny personality and none of the dogs --mpost of my dogs just have trohblke getting madat him even when he walkkjs on them and tried to pull their tail to play in the middle of the night --this is not frequent but i have even prentended to be asleep and pulled covers over my head when he wokeup in the middle of the night with his tail waging furously feeling very happy--even my
so his suposed atac dog was saying hi how are you in dog as this fellow was tryig to creat a problem and i took off --i knew rthat iwasnt over thous and he strted saying out loud to his frind in a theatricl voiice oh my he saulted me andhis frind saiud what and ithik that he was doing it for amcorder on his telepohone evne thogh i was not in the picure or frame and wa lkeaving a quickly as possible - his attack dog laying on his belly for my lab was funny but the rst was not -he tstormed out with his dog and the frind in two and really wanted to be beaten up or somethg and i had no intention in a million years of obliging him 00oit was all about causing trouble --i am well enoght to walkkj much better now and never lsot my strength but it would be dangerous or even deadly for me if i were injured in such a misiadvnetur and even thoghteat would be unlike i have no desire to hurt anyone and ne3verhave dfelt this way -- i am trainde in the martial arts and learnd about this for other spots i was on the judo team and part of the boxing club and the last and most healthy thing i did was take balet -judo and related martial arts were of value ecuse you lrn how to falland how to hold someone without hiurting them if you must --iwouldnt ream of this at presnet or at any time outsidof a teaches supervison and i never chose to do combat for sport --it was for cooridnation aand safety .
and that relly helped me to prevent injury--
anyway as the story goes the next thig i knew ther were poice knocking on my door --i was arrsted and teken to jail barefoot on a sunday noiht and not permited shoes or even the opoprtunity to get my walet or socks or lock mydogs in --the resting oficerwould not evn let me close my door and leep the dogs insideand laughtedabout me ebng able to pick them up the next day from aniu,mal control .
he askd me no questions about thie incident and made a crack about mu malkoig cpomplamnts anopit police --and made somejoke aboutanother day another dollar and a bonus for him pioitingto me whe he droipped me off and I ound out he charged me with ditrubing the peace and treepassing and battery --all of this was surreal --i want to laugh biut it is not gfunny and very disturbing and althogh i hav faith in the system and belkeiv the case will and should be dismidded and tha it wont even go tr otrial --all pof what happend was very worng and i dont know wha to do -- please advise --i feel very unsae in my home a fightened by the roughness and crulety i had to deal with and the worst seemd to cme fro,m the shris deputy

As I am sure that you are aware, I receive thousands of letters a year from people around the world on issues from Criminal Law to Timeshare Scams.
Let me tell you this. It is apparent to me that what has happened to you is that you have been categorized by the officers as a person of interest. This means that because you were 6'1 and 250 lbs and perhaps look intimidating, people just assumed that you were a big bad ass, and that included the cops.
Now, since you are trained in martial arts and you have the ABILITY to defend yourself, some people become worried that you are going to act out and hurt them and they call the police.
Welcome to America.
So now that they had what they felt was a valid complaint (That they had been waiting for) they finally got the chance to prove that they were right, that you are a bad ass and that they could arrest you.
Look Mark, there is really no way to fight this, as you are going to be assigned a public defender and he is going to simply do a deal and you are going to get probation and a fine.
One thing that I want you to know is that one of the things that I have always promised my readers is that I will always be one hundred percent honest in everything that I say, and I will not sugar coat anything, so here goes.
People think that just because you are large and now that you have been arrested, that you are a real danger to their community, so do not expect this crap to stop.
I can tell that you are a good man, and the fact that you took the time to write to me, as hard as it is for you, tells me that you do care for people.
Try this. When the police come by, stop them and just say hello and let them know that you really appreciate what they are doing. SHOW them that you are not the bad person that people think.
Tell the judge that you are a good neighbor and that you are a person who really cares about people.
Print this out and show this to the judge. By showing this to him, he will no doubt see that you are really trying to seek assistance and perhaps he will modify your sentence to require you to attend classes to get your GED instead of simply putting you in the system.
That would make real change in your life, and that is what the justice system is for.
To the DA, give this man a chance. HELP him, and let him be sentenced to attend classes on anger management and a class where he can get his GED.
