Question
there is a toll free number that calls me 4 or 5 times a day, been going on for weeks now. The person they ask for does not live here. It is driving us crazy, and we try blocking it, they still call. the number is  1 866 887 0838 but I can not figure out who it is. I call them back and they hang up. Definitely some foreigner. How do I get them to leave me alone? we already signed up with do not call registry and i even reported that number to them. And yet they call. I am going to try a good old whistle next time, as even the phone company has not idea what i should do. thanks.. i hope you can give me some ideas.. been working on making them stop for weeks now to no avail. Joanie

Answer
Dear Joan,

Unfortunately it seems like you have taken all of the action that you can.  For what it is worth I just went through the same ordeal where a creditor of a person who used to have the telephone number that was assigned to me kept calling.  On one call that I answered I finally found a receptive person who understood the situation and had there company stop calling that particular telephone number.

If I had to guess I would suggest that you are dealing with a company tracking down deadbeat customers of creditors.  Try to answer the telephone to explain your situation to them.  If that does not work go back to screening the call.  I would, however, change your answering message for a short time explaining that the person they are looking for does not reside at your address.

Unfortunately there is not much more you can do that you have not done already.

I hope this information helps.  Have a great day.
