My name is Caitlin and I am currently a third year Psychological and Sociological Sciences major at Penn State. After graduating with my Bachelors degree, I plan on going for my Master's in Forensic Psychology. So my question now is, what can I do with a degree in psych or forensic psychology? Recently I've been looking into an FBI honors internship, however I was also curious as to what other options are available if this doesn't pan out? So far everything I've looked into has dealt with the legal system, which is fine, but what I'm really interested in doing is Criminal Profiling/Behavior Analysis. Do you have any tips or recommendations for me? Thank you for your time. Your attention to this matter is greatly appreciated.
Answer I think you have a number of options with your interest in Criminal Profiling/Behavior Analysis. Two options come to mind; working with a large police department in the Investigative Division and/or working with a State's Attorney/Prosecutor's Office. Both of these Public Institutions would benefit from your knowledge/interests in criminal behavior. Another option you might want to consider is to also get a law degree and become a Prosecutor. From my experience, contrary to popular opinion, the legal/justice system seems to know little about the thinking/motivations of criminals. Understanding this would greatly increase convictions rates. Good luck in the future.
