QUESTION: Hi there, I'm a student who is currently trying to finish my essay on the nature vs nurture argument. One of my sections is dedicated to criminology. I'm hoping you can give me a profile of both men. I know Lucas was abused but I'm finding it hard to find a profile that says that because of this abuse he turned to killing. Kaczynski participated in the 'stress test' while in University but was this a direct contributor to his bombings? I'd really appreciate a reply. Thanks.

Books and websites only give so much information and most of the articles I have read, the information differs greatly. I thought an opinion from a professional would be better. The answer is it is neither.
Serial killers like Henry Lee Lucas their sex drive at some point became
focused on violence. This may well be strictly from an abusive situation growing up. But most will have personality disorders and mental health issues. Good number of then had a head injury.
Millions people have abusive childhoods who, who had head injury and psychological problem. Yet only a handful become serial killers.
At any given time 200 or so serial killers operating around the world.
As of now the attempts to prove a genetic connection has not been found.
Attempt at PET scans showed different patterns in serials killers.
Unfortunate the researcher Dr. Michael Stone of Columbia Univ showed the same pattern. XYY theory failed upon review.
Never the less, it seems has to be some genetic part because the known nurture does produce it reliably.


Lucas was also a serial confessor.

Ted Kaczynski is who different type of offender.

Axis I:  799.9 Diagnosis or Condition Deferred on Axis I
297.1 Delusional Disorder, Mixed Type.

Axis II:

301.0  Paranoid Personality Disorder

He put that into his own manifesto and started the bombings.
Kaczynski seems to just highly intelligent mentally ill man.

In someone like Kaczynski it was mostly genetic based mental illness
that on set in the expected time. 18 to 30 years is the norm.
He moved out Montana then got sicker and sicker then the bombing 7 years later. Had Kaczynski gotten mental health treatment he would not have become a bomber.
