Question
Three years ago my son murdered a young man with a knife. The were on a "camping trip" only 400 yards from my son's home. There were 140 sharp trauma injuries including 70 deep wounds, a slit throat and a severed ear. After the victim was dead he built a fire separate from their camp fire and placed the victim face down into the fire.
I asked him why he had done this. In a letter he told me that I was the only one who asked him that. The answer was horrifying. He said that he did not want the Medical Examiner to find out that he had stabbed the victim in his eyes.
He has never given a motive except to claim self defense. With Drugs and alcohol were involved.

I hope that you can give me some insight as to what may have happened.

Hi Joe,
I can't help much because I don't detail I would need.
Other than rage and some personal motive to killer there not much I can tell you.
Without a trial I have no details such their relationship, how many pre and post mortem wounds,  toxicology, mental health diagnosis, killers bio etc. to work with. I really doubt the self defense claim with that level overkill. This attack had to have quite a few minutes. There is a good chance that either organic or chemically induced psychosis was some part of this. But that is an educated guess at best. Sounds some ritual in the murder. The cutting ear off and stabbing the eyes would indicate there was some ritual at play.
That will only make sense to the killer. He also did not want his ritual to be known.
I wonder if this was his first kill be it animal or human.
I wish I could tell you more.
