Question
QUESTION: Hi there, my boyfriend and I are planning on spending about 10 days in Croatia this June. We are looking to fly into Split and then travel down to finish in Dubrovnik. I know that Croatia has alot to offer and so we will by no means cover off everything in 10 days but are there any places in particluar that you recommend visiting and how long we should stay there for? I was originally thinking of travelling on ferries between islands and then spending 2 or 3 nights in Dubrovnik. Does this sound like a good idea to you? And does using ferries sound feasible or should we rent out a scooter (are these easily found)? We enjoy the cultural aspects countries have to offer and would hope to avoid more commercial 'clubbing' islands per se. Your help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks, Lulu

ANSWER: Hi Lulu !

Great that you decided to visit island in south Croatia and city of Dubrovnik.

My suggestion is following ....
When you arrive in Split go to ferry port (from airport) and travel to island Hvar (Stari grad) or spend one night in Split (Hotel Marijan).
At island Hvar rent a scooter and drive around (Hvar is 65km long),
visit old castle above city of Hvar, go to village Jelsa and try local vine and cheese. Try finding local boat transfer from Jelsa to island Brac and go visit beautiful Golden cape (Zlatni Rat) http://www.find-croatia.com/photos-croatia/islands-croatia/slides/Croatia005Brac

All ferry connections find at www.jadrolinija.hr

If you have any additional question I'm here !

QUESTION: Thanks very much Igor, that's really useful. One more question - you have mentioned in previous posts that you don't recommend using sobe/zimmer. This was a form of accomodation that I was intending to base our trip on as I have also read many good things about sobe (cheap/good way to experience Croatia/giving money to local people rather than big companies etc). Please could you expand on the pros and cons of staying in Croatia this way? Many thanks for your help, Lulu

Answer
Hi Lulu,

yes, you can use-rent rooms (apartments) everywhere in Croatia. What I suggest is that you do that on spot. You walk around the village and 60% of local people rent a room. You see one, you get a price offer and you rent it ! I do it in that way all the time, and there are absolutely no risks in that.
