Question QUESTION: My friends and I are thinking of booking a tour of Croatia in late Feb. of 2009. We are hoping that stores, museums, etc. will be open at that time of year. It is the least expensive of the tours because of the month. Do you think it would be a good idea.
ANSWER: My suggestion is to take a rent-a-car and travel tru Croatia. Start with Zagreb (many museums and stores), go to Pula (biggest Roman amphitheater in the world), Rijeka, Split, Dubrovnik and take airplane from Dubrovnik back home.

QUESTION: Hi again. Thanks for replying. Is Late Febuary a decent time of year to visit? We will be on a tour that will include Zagreb, Budva,Dubrovnik, Sibenik, and Opatija. One friend is concerned that shops will not be open at that time of year. Another friend is concerned about the weather. I think it would be great to go then, save some money on the cost of the trip, avoid the crowds, and enjoy the scenery and history. Any advice about weather at that time of year?
Answer February is the coldest month in winter, temperatures in Zagreb between 9-13 celsius, snow also possible. But in Opatija, Sibenik, Dubrovnik and Budva you can expect 10-13 celsius and without possibility of snow.
Shops are opened the whole year without exceptions, there is no so many souvenirs to buy, authentic ones, I suggest you buy those in Dubrovnik center.
From Zagreb to Opatija you have app. 200km, from Opatija to Sibenik 300 km, from Sibenik to Dubrovnik 500km, Dubrovnik to Budva app. 150km.
