My girlfriend and I are travelling to Croatia for 10 days at the end of May 2008. We are flying into Dubrovnick and out of Zadar. We are wondering if there are any recommende itinerary we could follow for the 10 days. We are quite active people. We would like to take in some time on the Islands. We would also like to see some of the national parks. We are planning on hiring a car if we need to.And our budget is in the mid range.

Answer Hi,
Dubrovnik is at southeast point of Croatia, nice to see is the old city, climb on city walls (it's around 5 EURO entrance), and have a lunch (or dinner) at old restaurant Arsenal in harbor, it's my favorite and the prices are moderate (20-40EUR per person) - http://www.mea-culpa.hr/index.php?restaurant=galerijaSlika&dubrovnik=hr
If you are staying longer in Dubrovnik i suggest to rent a speed boat in ACI marina Dubrovnik (10 minutes with taxi from city) at telephone +385 98 335 554 (Andro) and to visit amazing island around Dubrovnik (Sipan, Lokrum, Lopud, Jakljan), but ask Andro, it's a great guy and will answer all questions on site. You can spend 2-3 days in Dubrovnik, and surrounding islands.
From Dubrovnik, rent a car in Budget or Avis (better Avis) cause you can leave car in Zadar Airport. The price for car rental is around 50-100 EUR day, take a smaller one :-))
