Croatia/Independent travel in Croatia

QuestionMilo-My husband and I will be in Croatia for 8 or 9 days the end of Oct. Is it possible to get from Bled, Slovenia to Rijeka? We are planning to spend 2 nights there and then go to Split for 2 nights. Then on to Dubrovnik for 2 nights and then Zagreb, 2 nights. Is this too ambitious? We need to be in Prague after Zagreb, so can we fly or take a train in one day? Can we get from Dubrovnik to Zagreb in one day? Maybe we should start in Zagred and then fly from Dubrovnik to Prague, if that is possible. I hope you can give me some advice. I only wish we had more time.
Thanking you in advance for your help.

AnswerHiya Debby!!
Okay, I am very glad that I can help you with this question because during this past summer, I actually travelled to Zagreb, then Rijeka, and so on. Since you are coming from Slovenia, you probably want to work your way south and then take a flight to Prague. Here is what I would do:
First, take a plane or train from Slovenia to Zagreb(maybe it's $100). Spend your two nights there, and then take a bus (it's about 4 hours away for $20 per person) through the mountains to Rijeka. You can spend your 2 nights there, and then take a boat (you can get a room in the boat for two people for about $120) to Dubrovnik (it is a 20 hour boat ride). Spend your 2 days in Dubrovnik. Then, take a flight (appx. $50 for one person) to Split or you can go by boat again for a cheap price. Then, spend your two nights in Split (which is an absolutely gorgeous city) and try to get a flight from Split to Prague.
So, to wrap it all up and make this a little simpler to understand, here is my advice in shorter terms.
1)Plane to Zagreb
2)Bus to Rijeka
3)Boat to Dubrovnik
4)Train/Plane/Bus/or Boat to Split
5)Plane to Prague
Since transportation in Croatia is not expensive at all, you should not have to spend a lot of money. When I went to visit my family this summer, I went from Split to Rijeka to Zagreb to Slavonski Brod, then back to Zagreb and back to Split. It is somewhat similar to what you are doing.
I hope you consider my advice and have a wonderful trip! I hope I helped you in some way. If you have any more questions, I am glad to help!
Thanks!

P.S. When making your flight arrangements, I would call about 2 days ahead. That is what I did, and I had no problem reserving a seat. The same goes for the bus and boat. 2 days ahead to reserve is always good. Also, to help you understand where exactly you are going, get out a map of Croatia right now and look it over. You will definitely have a better idea of where these places you are visiting are.
