About Marla
Expertise
I have crocheted many doilies, I enjoy working with crochet thread. I have crocheted numerous afghans. But I have little to no experience in hairpin lace, or the afghan stitch. If you have a question pertaining to a pattern in a magazine, book or leaflet, please include the name and # of it, and the page or pattern #. There is a slight possibility I may have that pattern, and can refer to it. Although I have crocheted sweaters and slippers,I don't feel I have done enough of them to really give good advice as to assembling the pieces, but can give advice on the type of stitches.

Experience
I have been a crocheter for almost 30 years.

Crochet - blocking an afghan

Expert: Marla - 10/25/2008

Question
how do you block an afghan or do you have to do that anymore?

Answer
Hi Cheryl!
Thanks for asking. I usually don’t block my afghans except for maybe the sides and ends if they have curled up, and then I only VERY lightly iron them.  But I found a website that gives really good tips on the matter. Go to: http://www.needlepointers.com. Click on “crochet”, then in the “Site Search” box, type in “blocking”. Then click on “Blocking a Crocheted Piece". As you will see, there are many factors to consider before you go to block an afghan.  I hope this helps.  I am sorry I am not more help. Let me know if this website doesn't answer your questions. I can also look in my crochet afghan books for more answers.  Good luck with your afghan!
