Crochet/Adding border to baby afghan

Question
I'm new at crochet and usually work off of patterns. I thought I would be brave and make a baby afghan using 2 strands of yarn using double crochet stitch.  I'm at a loss as to how to add the edging.  Any advice would be appreciated.  Thank you!

Answer
Hey, Carmen: You'll need to use just one strand of yarn to do the edging, otherwise it will be too bulky. Locate the corners, and attach your yarn at a corner stitch, and working down the long side put a dc in the corner st, (ch2, dc in the next st). Repeat this all the way to the next corner. In the corner st, do a (dc, ch2, dc, ch2, dc, ch 2)This will get you around the corner, now repeat the other instructions above, down this side to the next corner stitch, and repeat the corner st instructions. Repeat for the other 2 sides, and when you get to the first corner, work it just as you did for the other corners, except that you'll already have a dc in that first corner, so you'll just do ch 2, and attach it to that dc, and break off (you'll have 3 dc in each corner).  Hope this helps you!

I consider myself an expert in the field of hand crochet. I have been crocheting for 45 years. I can answer most question on the differnt stitches, as well as the methods used to create speciality items. The art of crochet, after 2 decades of being out of fashion, is enjoying a modest come back. I want to help those newcomers looking for a little/lot of help to get started. Once they are comfortable with the process, they can relax & begin to create the heirlooms of tomorrow.
