Question
Hi,
It seems no matter what I make .. baby blanket, wash clothes, the sides either go in or out. What am I doing wrong? It's very frustrating. Thanks for your help.

Answer
Hey, Carol! My guess is that if you're doing a pattern that requires working back and forth, and turning at the end of each row, that you're not working a stitch in the turning ch at the ends of each row. When you ch 1 or 2 and turn, that chain is a stitch, and needs a stitch in it before you do your turning chain. When you start a project, it's very important to count your stitches for the first 3 or 4 rows, so you can keep it even.  Some patterns give you stitch counts at the end of those first few rows, if they don't you'll have to do it for yourself. It will save a lot of frustration!
I hope this helps!

Best,  Bea

Expertise

I consider myself an expert in the field of hand crochet. I have been crocheting for 45 years. I can answer most question on the differnt stitches, as well as the methods used to create speciality items. The art of crochet, after 2 decades of being out of fashion, is enjoying a modest come back. I want to help those newcomers looking for a little/lot of help to get started. Once they are comfortable with the process, they can relax & begin to create the heirlooms of tomorrow.
