Question
i am beginner in crochet and like the feel of mercerized cotton -- is mercerized cotton only for very fine crochet(thread-like)? I have been crocheting blankets in medium weight (5.5 mm hook) and have done a poncho for my daughter but i would like something that lays flatter and feels smooth - am i right in thinking that mercerized cotton would give me that finish and do you know if it comes in bigger than thread size -- please forgive me if this sounds like a stupid question

Answer
Hey, Susan!  I think the 50/50 blend would be excellent! It has that soft cotton feel, and the acrylic inhibits shrinkage.

Good luck on your project, and have fun!

Expertise

I consider myself an expert in the field of hand crochet. I have been crocheting for 45 years. I can answer most question on the differnt stitches, as well as the methods used to create speciality items. The art of crochet, after 2 decades of being out of fashion, is enjoying a modest come back. I want to help those newcomers looking for a little/lot of help to get started. Once they are comfortable with the process, they can relax & begin to create the heirlooms of tomorrow.
