Crochet/weaving in ends

Question
I have crocheted numberous items, afghans, slippers, scarves etc. and have never had a problem with ends sticking out. I'm making an afghan for my sister-in-law for Christmas and using Lion Suede yard. It's beautiful and soft but the ends won't stay out of sight. I've never had this problem with other yards/projects. When I weave in the ends using a darning needle for 3 to 4 inches the very tip of the yard sticks out no matter how close I trim it. I was considering using "Mighty Mend It" to glue them down. Any ideas?

Answer
Hey, Julie!  I have had to get a sewing needle, and sew them down! I never thought about using anything on the ends, but I think you might be on to something! Is it waterproof? If so it's sure worth a try! If you want to try sewing them down, just use some matching sewing thread, and they just disappear! Tedious, but I have done it several times, until I started using 100% cotton yarn.  Soft yarns are just hard to work in, when the project isn't fairly tight. Anyway, I hope this was of some help!

Expertise

I consider myself an expert in the field of hand crochet. I have been crocheting for 45 years. I can answer most question on the differnt stitches, as well as the methods used to create speciality items. The art of crochet, after 2 decades of being out of fashion, is enjoying a modest come back. I want to help those newcomers looking for a little/lot of help to get started. Once they are comfortable with the process, they can relax & begin to create the heirlooms of tomorrow.
