About Marla
Expertise
I have crocheted many doilies, I enjoy working with crochet thread. I have crocheted numerous afghans. But I have little to no experience in hairpin lace, or the afghan stitch. If you have a question pertaining to a pattern in a magazine, book or leaflet, please include the name and # of it, and the page or pattern #. There is a slight possibility I may have that pattern, and can refer to it. Although I have crocheted sweaters and slippers,I don't feel I have done enough of them to really give good advice as to assembling the pieces, but can give advice on the type of stitches.

Experience
I have been a crocheter for almost 30 years.

Crochet - Christmas tree made from stars

Expert: Marla - 12/2/2008

Question
Last week I sent you a question about a Christmas tree that started out with Large stars and gradually got smaller.  You stack them on a dowel rod that has been mounted on a wooden block.  You asked me if it was in a magazine or something to that effect.  I only had the pattern after it had been cut out.  I do believe though that it had been in a magazine.  It had a picture of the finished product.  It was done in a Hunter or Pine green color.  It was very pretty and I'm kicking myself over losing, or misplacing it.  I've torn my house apart hunting it, but no luck so far.  Any help is deeply appreciated.

Answer
Hi Barbara!
Hi!
Thanks for getting back to me. The closest instructions I have come to find so far is a “Mary Maxim" project that is for coasters that I made years ago. Somewhere I have the finished project. They are six-pointed stars. I think they are made with 2-ply yarn, and do sit on a dowel. But the instructions are only for one size. The instructions say each star is about 5”. It looks like you can add rounds or delete rounds to make the tapered look. I can type up the instructions for this if you are interested. I don't have access to a scanner. Let me know! I still have some magazines to look through.
