Question
afghan instruction reads: Row 5:... *sc around ch-3 sp of Row 2 and ch-1 sps of Rows 3 & 4 simultaneously... (Eco Throw #CN1006 by Caron, a free pattern also available online) I have no clue what this is telling me to do. Thank you so much for your help.

Let's see if I can put this into symbols so that it's easier to visualize what you're doing.

The first row is all single crochet, which will look like this +
The second row has a ch 3, which will look like this ^
The third and forth row have a chain 1, which will look like this -
and 3 doubles which will use the letter T

+-+-+-+-+-+-+   Row 4: ch1, sc , ch 1 *sc in each of next 3 dc, ch 1
T-T-T-T-T-T-T   Row 3: ch3,*3 doubles in chain,ch1
+^+^+^+^+^+^+   Row 2: sc, ch 3, skip 1 stitch, sc in next
+++++++++++++   Row 1: sc in each chain

At the start of row 5, you change colors, then single into the first single. Then you're going to do a single in the next chain 1 space, but...you will put your hook under that chain 3 of row 2, as well as the chain 1 of row 3 and 4.

Hook goes here   ^
            + + +  
You will do the sc around all three chain loops on all three rows before the 3 scs, and then again after.  This will put those three together somewhat like this:

They really need to include a close up detail photo of that step!
