Crochet/foundation cord in Irish crochet

Question
I can make the foundation cord and crochet in the circle. What do you do with the cord later? I am making a Irish crochet shamrock.

Answer
Hi Donna!
Thanks for asking. Irish crochet is so beautiful. There are two forms of Irish crochet, as I know them. One is where you crochet over a crochet chain. I have done many of these. In this case you weave the ends in back through your work. The traditional, as I know it is when you crochet over a cord.  I am not very familiar with the traditional. I think, but am not sure is that you tie the foundation cord to the working cord when you are done, and weave them back through your work.  By tying them, you avoid the chance that the stitches will slip off the foundation cord. I am sorry I am not much help. Perhaps another expert has done a lot of Irish crochet and could be of more help. I don't want to steer you in the wrong direction. Good luck!

Expertise

I have crocheted many doilies, I enjoy working with crochet thread. I have crocheted numerous afghans. But I have little to no experience in the afghan stitch, or hairpin lace. If you have a question pertaining to a pattern in a magazine, book or leaflet, please include the name and # of it, and the page or pattern #. There is a slight possibility I may have that pattern, and can refer to it. Nearly all of my crochet magazines, leaflests, etc are over 5 years old. Many are from the 80's and before. Although I have crocheted sweaters and slippers,I don't feel I have done enough of them to really give good advice as to assembling the pieces, but can give advice on the type of stitches.

Experience

I have been a crocheter for over 30 years.
