QUESTION: One of the gauges in my book is 7dc (ch 1 sps) = 4" how do I get the ch 1 spaces in there?

ANSWER: Andrea,
I can't answer that without more information.  Double check your pattern, sometimes the gauge swatch is crocheted with a different stitch pattern than the completed project.  See if there is information about the gauge swatch before you get to the specific project instructions.  It sound like it might be a *dc, ch 1, dc, ch 1* pattern.
If you don't find more information about the gauge swatch, you might send me the book title, & author, and I'll see if I can get my hands on it to gather more information.

QUESTION: I can't tell, but it's a mesh-style tunic by Afya Ibomu in Fly tops and Funky Flavas. It's called the Tune In.

I can't locate the book in any local library or bookstore, and put out the question to a larger group, but havent' received any answers.  Since you say that it's a mesh, it's probably a pattern of dc, chain 1, dc across the row.  So the 7 dcs, with a chain 1 between each would measure 4 inches across.
