Crochet/Afghan directions

Question
Can you help me to understand these directions? The first five rows  work the Basic Afghan Stitch. That I understand. It is Row 6-First Half: Pick up 22 stitches. How do I pick up 22 stitches? Thanks.

Answer
I would understand it to mean that you work the Basic Afghan stitch in the first 22 stitches.  After that you probably have directions for a different stitch, or a color change.
Does that make sense with the next directions? Does that look right in the picture?  Hope that helps, if not, write again and copy & paste all of the row 6 instructions.
