Question
I was able to ch4; join with sl st in first ch to form a ring. Rnd 1: Ch-3 counts as dc; 2dc in ring, (ch3, 3 dc in ring) 3 times, ch 3; join with sl st in top of ch-3.

This is what I don't understand, Rnd 2: Sl st across to next ch-3 sp; work ch 3, 2 dc, ch3 and 3 dc in same sp-first corner is made;*ch1, work 3 dc, ch 3, and 3 di in next ch-3 sp-corner made; rep from *twice more, ch 1; join.

Answer
Hi, Stacy!  When you join with a sl st in the top of ch 3, to end row 1,also sl st in the next 2 dc. Now you are at the ch 3 space, so sl st in the ch 3 space, then ch 3, 2 dc, ch 3 and 3 dc's in the ch 3 space, and your first corner is done! Now, just follow your pattern until you have all 4 corners done!

Expertise

I consider myself an expert in the field of hand crochet. I have been crocheting for 45 years. I can answer most question on the differnt stitches, as well as the methods used to create speciality items. The art of crochet, after 2 decades of being out of fashion, is enjoying a modest come back. I want to help those newcomers looking for a little/lot of help to get started. Once they are comfortable with the process, they can relax & begin to create the heirlooms of tomorrow.
