Question
Hi,

Would you be able to help me in translating a part of the instructions of a pattern I have?  The line I need help with is Row 67:

“Row 67: Sc in first dc and in each dc across, sc in 3rd ch of turning ch-3 – 79 sc.  Ch 1, turn.  Do not fasten off.”

(Prior Row)
Row 66: Dc in next dc; *dc in next sl st, dc in next dc; repeat from * across; dc in turning ch-1 - 79 dc. Ch 1, turn.

(Next row would be edging)
Round 1: Work 3 sc in first sc (corner made), sc in next 77 sc across top, 3 sc in last sc (corner made), sc in left edge of Rows 66-2, working 2 sc around post of each dc on even numbered rows and 1 sc in each sl st or ch on odd numbered rows, 3 sc in edge of row 1 (corner made), sc in free lp of next 77 chs across bottom, 3 sc in free lp of last ch (corner made), sc in right edge of rows 2-66, working 2 sc around turning ch-3 sps of each even numbered row and 1 sc in each sl st on odd numbered rows - 362 sc.  Join with sl st in first sc.  Fasten off CA.

Any assistance you can give would be greatly appreciated!

Answer
Hi, Chrissie! Well, I can see where the problem is!  There is no ch 3 at the end of row 66, just a ch 1! My guess is, that on the end of row 66, there should have been a ch 3, but a typo slipped in! I think so because row 67 specifically calls for a ch 3, where none exists. And the edging row talks about 2 sc in turning ch 3's on even rows, which row 66 is. I think you'll have to undo row 66, and add that ch 3! I hope this was helpful (but no fun!)

Best Wishes,  Bea

I consider myself an expert in the field of hand crochet. I have been crocheting for 45 years. I can answer most question on the differnt stitches, as well as the methods used to create speciality items. The art of crochet, after 2 decades of being out of fashion, is enjoying a modest come back. I want to help those newcomers looking for a little/lot of help to get started. Once they are comfortable with the process, they can relax & begin to create the heirlooms of tomorrow.
