Question
When a pattern says Chain 3 (this counts as first single crochet)  Then form a ring in 3rd chain, single crochet in ring 9 times (I know how to do that part.  The next row says chain 2, single crochet in same single crochet.  Can you expain what it means when it says chain 2, single crochet in same single crochet?  Thanks

Answer
Hey, Lorraine!  You formed a ch 3 ring(which counts as as first sc) and put 9 sc in the ring. How did you join this round? If you joined it to the ch 3, then from there, you ch 2 and put a sc at the base of that ch 2,where it's joined to the ch 3. Remember that that first ch 3 counts as the first sc. That's why your pattern for row 2 said "join in same sc".
Hope this explains thing!

Expertise

I consider myself an expert in the field of hand crochet. I have been crocheting for 45 years. I can answer most question on the differnt stitches, as well as the methods used to create speciality items. The art of crochet, after 2 decades of being out of fashion, is enjoying a modest come back. I want to help those newcomers looking for a little/lot of help to get started. Once they are comfortable with the process, they can relax & begin to create the heirlooms of tomorrow.
