I hope you can help me. I am crocheting my niece a christening dress, and the pattern calls for thread #10 and hook # 7.. the problem is my eyes, and fingers..lol they don't work well together.. is there a way to use a larger needle with out messing up the pattern?

The hook is only a suggestion. You have to find the hook that will work with the gauge given. If you crochet tight, then a smaller hood will need to be used, Loose a larger one.  I like to do Christening Gown and I use a 4. Also take into consideration the size of the baby, you can use the hook to adjust that as well.
