Crochet/how much yarn will I need?

Question

How much yarn for this
My siblings and I each received afghans for wedding gifts from my grandmother ~ and I would like to continue her tradition and make the same afghan for my nieces/nephews/children for their wedding. I do not have the pattern though.
I can easily copy the pattern from looking at my afghan, but my problem is figuring out how much yarn to get.  Is there a method to do this?  My afghan (after years of use and laundering) is about 85 x 65, with a significant fringe across 2 ends ~ 8 inch long after 3 overhand knots - with 15 strands in each group. It is all double stitch and popcorn stitch.
I have attached a photo (hopefully)
If, by some stroke of luck, I could get the pattern, it would be fantastic! ... but, realistically, I'd appreciate any help or advice about the amount of yarn it may need.

Answer

P.S. That beautiful afghan is going to require mega amounts of yarn!

CommentThank you, Bea! What an interesting website you linked me to!... The calculator isn't the best considering my afghan has different panels of different stitches, but, it did give me a guideline for how to use my own math and calculate it myself. It is certainly a useful resource tho ~ and I've shared the link with my crocheting aunts and mother!... My calculations figure I will need 20 3.5 oz skeins (I "overbought" 22)~ I got Bernat Berella "4" yarn ~ what a nice yarn!.... and it looks beautiful so far! Thanks for your expert help!
