Question
Hi Bea, Back again with a different problem. I have an afghan that I would like to make into an adult size.

Using WW yarn, 30 1/2 oz. (1,725 yds.), hook H.  The guage in pattern: 5 5-hdc groups = 3 3/4" (9.5 cm.), 4 rows = 4" (10 cm). For baby the size is 36" x 45".

I can't remember what I asked you about before, lol! The mind goes with time!! I don't know how to convert this and what to do. Is there an easy way? Take care.

Debbie

Answer
Hey, Deb! There are a couple of things you might try. This is not an exact science, mind you, and it's difficult to make small things very much bigger! You can purchase 4 ply yarn, and use a size or 2 bigger hook.  You can also use 2 strands of regular (not baby) yarn, and use a hook 2 sizes bigger. If you want, you can make swatches for both methods and see which you prefer. What you're after is to make the "4 rows = 4" into 4 rows = 6", at least.  If the double strand makes it bigger than that, all the better! You'll add two inches to every 4 rows, both in length and width. You can figure out the size from there!

Best of luck!  Bea

Expertise

I consider myself an expert in the field of hand crochet. I have been crocheting for 45 years. I can answer most question on the differnt stitches, as well as the methods used to create speciality items. The art of crochet, after 2 decades of being out of fashion, is enjoying a modest come back. I want to help those newcomers looking for a little/lot of help to get started. Once they are comfortable with the process, they can relax & begin to create the heirlooms of tomorrow.
