Crochet/how to make last stitch in a row

Question
Instructions often say not to forget the last stitch in a row, but don't tell you how to make that stitch.  Could you please tell me how to do this in single crochet and in double crochet?  Thanks!  I appreciate your help.

Answer
Hey, Glenda! The last stitch in a row, is made exactly like all the other stitches in that row. The pattern mentions the last stitch because it's usually a turning chain, and new crocheters often don't count them as a stitch. So, you'll put a sc or dc in that turning ch, do another turning ch, turn, and put your next stitch as indicated. This most often occurs when you are making something that requires a starting ch, and then you work back and forth across the piece, turning at the end of each row, as with afghans and baby blankets, ect.

Hope this helps!

I consider myself an expert in the field of hand crochet. I have been crocheting for 45 years. I can answer most question on the differnt stitches, as well as the methods used to create speciality items. The art of crochet, after 2 decades of being out of fashion, is enjoying a modest come back. I want to help those newcomers looking for a little/lot of help to get started. Once they are comfortable with the process, they can relax & begin to create the heirlooms of tomorrow.
