Crochet/washing

Question
I've just finished crocheting an afghan with 100
acrylic red heart yarns.Kaleidoscope pattern, so there are many color changes. I am giving it as a gift at a shower. Is it recommended to wash an afghan prior to giving it as a gift?

Answer
Hey, Taunya! Though it isn't strictly necessary, I always wash my afghans when I finish them. Since you're using Acrylic yarn, wash it on the gentle cycle, partially dry it,(with a dryer sheet) lay it out wherever you have space,& block it by smoothing with your hands.  It will be nice and fresh when your gift is opened!

Expertise

I consider myself an expert in the field of hand crochet. I have been crocheting for 45 years. I can answer most question on the differnt stitches, as well as the methods used to create speciality items. The art of crochet, after 2 decades of being out of fashion, is enjoying a modest come back. I want to help those newcomers looking for a little/lot of help to get started. Once they are comfortable with the process, they can relax & begin to create the heirlooms of tomorrow.
