Question
I am using a pattern book from Leisure Arts, purchased thru Mary Maxim. I have attached 11 sc of the leg to the body, there are 16 unworked on the leg. When the next round is worked to the leg, here are the instructions: "sc in next unworked sc on leg, working in sc behind same leg, sc in next sc, ch 9, skip next 9 sc, sc in next sc, skip next 14 unworked sc in same leg, sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc on body..." What is confusing to me is where exactly are the sc that are to be worked behind? This round says to skip next 9, then sc. The next round "sc in next skipped sc on leg, working in sc behind same leg, sc in next sc, ch 8, sc in next sc, skip next 12 sc on same leg, sc in next sc, sc in next 22 on body" So this one says to sc, chain and sc, without skipping anything. The remaining 4 rounds are like the second one, with the length of the chain decreasing by 2 each time. I have searched everywhere, even went to the book store and spent hours trying to find the reference there. I would really appreciate any help you can give me. Thanks so much for your time.

Answer
Hey, Terry! Working behind, means that you'll be going back to the stitches you just skipped on the leg. FRom your description it could be stitches you skipped on the previous round, but it's hard to tell, without the previous rnd. Just know that you'll be working in previously skipped stitches I hope this is enoug info, to get started again.

I consider myself an expert in the field of hand crochet. I have been crocheting for 45 years. I can answer most question on the differnt stitches, as well as the methods used to create speciality items. The art of crochet, after 2 decades of being out of fashion, is enjoying a modest come back. I want to help those newcomers looking for a little/lot of help to get started. Once they are comfortable with the process, they can relax & begin to create the heirlooms of tomorrow.
