Crochet - Pineapple Table Cloth Stitch

Expert: Ed Matos - 11/6/2009

Question
HI Ed Matos - I have just started a round table cloth and came across the word "strand".  Can't seem to quite fit it in my crochet language.  It reads "*ch 11, skip 4 sts, sc in 2 strands at lower back of next dc on next petal, ch 11, skip next 3 dc**.  Okay strands help where are the strands - lol.  Also what does the ** mean.  Thank you for your assistance.

Answer
Theresa:

Thanks for the question.

I will answer the easy part first. The ** means that when it states to repeat from ** that is where you would begin the repeat from there should also be another set of ** stating the ending of the instructions.

Now for the other question. Does it say IN 2 strands or WITH 2 strands? Strands in pattern states the amount of threads to use. There are patterns that you use 2 stands to complete the piece.

Now this can also mean that you will do the SC on the back of the 2 strands of the DC on the next petal. (the dc will have 2 strands in the front and 2 on the back of the DC, look at the dc and at the lower end you will see the strands that I am referring to.) This is to make the petal look more realistic since it will look like its floating behind the petal.

I do hope this answered your question. Should you need any assistance, please let me know.

Thanks and happy hooking

Ed
