AboutMarla Expertise I have crocheted many doilies, I enjoy working with crochet thread. I have crocheted numerous afghans. But I have little to no experience in hairpin lace, or the afghan stitch. If you have a question pertaining to a pattern in a magazine, book or leaflet, please include the name and # of it, and the page or pattern #. There is a slight possibility I may have that pattern, and can refer to it. Although I have crocheted sweaters and slippers,I don't feel I have done enough of them to really give good advice as to assembling the pieces, but can give advice on the type of stitches.
Experience I have been a crocheter for almost 30 years.
Question can you tell me why my crochet curls or twists no matter what i do
Answer Hi Lori!
Thanks for asking! I think the curl is a common problem if you crochet without any special modifications to your crochet, so I don’t think you are doing anything wrong. Here are some suggestions, and maybe you have already tried these: Make the foundation chain a little looser. Rather than chaining looser with the same hook, you could do this using a size larger crochet hook so that the chains are uniform. Loosening your tension, or even using a larger crochet hook for the entire project altogether may help, because different yarns have different textures and bulk, even though they have the same ply. One website I went to said to turn your foundation upside down, and crochet into the bottom thread. I generally do this myself, because it gives a nice edge to the starting row, because the bottom edge will look like the top edge. And then, last but not least, blocking it in the end should make it flat. The “perfectly shaped” afghans you see with the instructions have very likely been blocked. So don’t get discouraged. I know how frustrating that curl can be, especially if it is a gift for someone. I don’t know if this is any help, but just remember you are not alone. If you need any more help or suggestion, please ask. Good luck with your project!
