Crochet/Confusion on where stich goes

Question
I have a pattern I'm working on. It is for an organization that sends Crochet angels to cancer patients. Part of the pattern reads [fptrc around fptrc.(2 dc, 1 ch,2 dc) in 1 chsp] 11 times. My crocheting skills are only a bit above beginner and I am unsure of where to insert my hook to make the fptrc stitches. Can you possible help me?

Answer
Hi Amy!
Thanks for asking. Sorry it took so long. I hope it isn’t too late. Your question went to a question pool. Fptrc can be awkward at first. Now, when you make trc, the stitches look sort of like an “I”, or “posts”. Fptrc means, “front post treble crochet”. Instead of inserting the hook in the stitch like you were going to crochet normally, You are going to insert the hook just below that stitch (the "post"). First you yarn over twice like you were going to make a trc, Then you insert your hook to the right (or left if you are crocheting left-handed) of that trc, or “post”.  It would be almost like you were starting to weave with the crochet hook. The you bring the crochet hook behind and around to the front left (or right if crocheting left-handed) of the trc "post". Yarn over the hook and then continue like you were making a trc.

I hope this helps! Good luck. It is a wonderful thing you are doing!

Expertise

I have crocheted many doilies, I enjoy working with crochet thread. I have crocheted numerous afghans. But I have little to no experience in the afghan stitch, or hairpin lace. If you have a question pertaining to a pattern in a magazine, book or leaflet, please include the name and # of it, and the page or pattern #. There is a slight possibility I may have that pattern, and can refer to it. Nearly all of my crochet magazines, leaflests, etc are over 5 years old. Many are from the 80's and before. Although I have crocheted sweaters and slippers,I don't feel I have done enough of them to really give good advice as to assembling the pieces, but can give advice on the type of stitches.
