thanks

Answer
Hi Cheryl,
Sometimes I've seen instructions from overseas that use different terminology.
In joining motifs, such as you are doing, I "slip stitch" them together.  Perhaps, that is what they mean by a "drop stitch".  Basically I do this.

Put both motifs together, making sure that the stitches on one line up with the stitches on the other.  Insert the hook through the front stitch on top motif, through the corresponding stitch on the bottom motif.  Yarn over and pull your yarn all the way through both motifs.  Now you will have two loops on your hook.  If you were doing a single crochet, you would yarn over again and pull through both loops.
However, in a slip stitch, don't yarn off, just keep pulling that loop through.  It sort of makes it like an invisible seam.

If this doesn't work, send me the exact instructions and I will help you figure it out.  It seems that in one of my older books, I have the translations. I'm away from home right now but I would be happy to hunt this up for you. It can get pretty confusing if you're using instructions from the U.S. or English.  Let's not even talk about metric! :)

Traditional Crochet and Filet Crochet (not clothes) I do more thread crochet than yarn.

Experience

I have been crocheting for over 50 years. As a child growing up in New Orleans, LA, I had aunts and older cousins who taught me, but now they are all gone and sadly, there is no one who crochets in my area. I hope to be able to meet fellow crocheters through this website, and I'd be delighted if I could help someone answer a question. I'm sure I'll be asking my share, also. I specifically enjoy doilies and afghans. I really like designing filet crochet. I don't make clothes, other than hats and scarves.

Education/Credentials
I learned as a child in the 50's from aunts and older cousins.
