Crochet/Changing two-strand pattern to one-strand

Question
I see a lot of patterns made holding two strands of yarn together but I would like to make them using only one strand.  Would I need to lengthen the base chain by a certain number?  Is there a conversion table for this type of alteration?  Any help you can give me would be appreciated.

Thanks for the question.

A two strand pattern serve many things. It can be that you are using two different strands and by holding the two strands, give you a color variation. It could be you are using a yarn and a frill type yarn. Etc etc.

You can use a single yarn, but to maintain the gauge, you would need to see the weight of the thread, and then find the yarn that will give the same thickness, and then make also a needle adjustment to achieve the same end result.

I do hope this helped. Should you need any assistance, please let me know.
