Question

Daffodils011.jpg
My Mother volunteered to work on an afghan that was unfinished by an anonymous donor to their for-charity knitting and crochet group. We have been unable to identify the stitch and are hoping you can help so the afghan can be completed and donated. Perhaps you can suggest what size hook we should use, as well. Thanks so much!

Answer
Marti:

Thanks for the question.

From what I can make out, it looks like they are single crochets. A sure way to know is, stretch the piece a little bit to see the stitch spaces, if the stitch is small and compact, then it is a sc, if they are tall, then they could be dc.

Now for the hook size. This is a not an easy answer, because that would depend on the tension of the person that did the piece. I tend to stitch tight, this piece looks like it very tight, so I would try a size G, this is the most common size, then work from there. If your mom stitches are loose, then she would need to go smaller, if they are tight, then larger. Just stitch a small section and you can then see if its going to work or not.

I do hope I was able to help, that is a great thing your mom is doing. Best of luck with the project.

OH BTW, your other challenge may be the yarn. I would suggest for that part, to take the piece with you and match the color.

Best of luck. Should you need any assistance, please let me know

Happy Hooking
