Question
I am trying to make the afghan on the link that is shown on the link below. It is for a crib size afghan and I would like to make it larger, possibly a nice adult size afghan or at least twice the size of the pattern. How would I go about increasing this pattern?

Thanks for your help

Answer
Hi Carla,
I'm a "chart" person.  If I were to work this pattern, I'd chart it on graph paper, starting with the five 3" granny squares in the middle of my page.  It looks like there are three sets of granny squares, with long borders between them.  The borders look about 3" also.  I'd chart it out according to the picture and instructions.  Then I'd see what size it comes out to.
Then I'd add blocks in the middle, maybe try 2 rows of 7, instead of the 5.  Then I'd put in the border.  Now you'll be able to see how many granny squares you'll need for the next section.

Increasing the number of those center granny squares will be what will increase the overall size of the blanket.

Another idea would be to make those granny squares larger.  Right now, they're only 3".  If you add a row and made the granny squares larger, that would increase the size also.  Again you can do that on graph paper.

Hope this helps.  Let me know if I can help further.

Traditional Crochet and Filet Crochet (not clothes) I do more thread crochet than yarn.

Experience

I have been crocheting for over 50 years. As a child growing up in New Orleans, LA, I had aunts and older cousins who taught me, but now they are all gone and sadly, there is no one who crochets in my area. I hope to be able to meet fellow crocheters through this website, and I'd be delighted if I could help someone answer a question. I'm sure I'll be asking my share, also. I specifically enjoy doilies and afghans. I really like designing filet crochet. I don't make clothes, other than hats and scarves.

Education/Credentials
I learned as a child in the 50's from aunts and older cousins.
