Crochet/work curls

Question
QUESTION: I am making a simple dishcloth in a single crochet with Lion Brand Cotton Ease.  Using a size G hook.  My problem is that my work curls near the chain end.  I have taken it out numerous times and redone, making sure I don't have a tight tension - I don't.  I'm ashamed to tell you I've crocheted for years!  And, always have this problem, even with a simple baby blanket.  Thanks for any input.

ANSWER: Linda,
I hope I'm not telling you something you already know. When you get to the end of your row of single crochets, do you chain one and turn to start the next row?  This sets the next row up and that chain one counts as the first single of the next row.  If you're doing doubles on the second row, you'd chain 3 to set up for that row. Always make sure you pull that single or double up so that it is even with the rest of the stitches on that row. Other than that, I can't really see what you could be doing.  I take it you're not crocheting too tight, right.

If possible, take a picture and send it to me.

QUESTION: I will take a picture!  Good idea. Yes, I do chain one to turn and chain 3 for doubles.  What do you mean when you say, "...make sure you pull that single or double up so that it is even with the rest of the stitches on that row"?

Answer
Linda,
You're probably already doing this, but suppose row 2 is all doubles - you would chain 3 at the end of the previous row and turn.  Make sure that the chain 3 is the same height of the doubles you'll be making on row 2.
Another thing is make sure you count to make sure you have the same number of stitches on each row.  Of course, that's if you're making a square piece.  Once you lose or gain a stitch, subsequent rows won't be straight.

I look forward to seeing your picture. Hopefully we can figure it out.

Expertise

Traditional Crochet and Filet Crochet (not clothes) I do more thread crochet than yarn.

Experience

I have been crocheting for over 50 years. As a child growing up in New Orleans, LA, I had aunts and older cousins who taught me, but now they are all gone and sadly, there is no one who crochets in my area. I hope to be able to meet fellow crocheters through this website, and I'd be delighted if I could help someone answer a question. I'm sure I'll be asking my share, also. I specifically enjoy doilies and afghans. I really like designing filet crochet. I don't make clothes, other than hats and scarves.

Education/Credentials
I learned as a child in the 50's from aunts and older cousins.
