Crochet/Pattern Question

Question
I'm having a problem with a pattern...it reads "working in sts and chs across, sc in first dc, ch1 (skip next st, sc in next st, ch 1) repeat across to last two sts.
I'm confused.  Lets say I have 1 sc and 3 chains - do i sc in the first sc, ch1, skip the first ch, sc in the next chain c1 , etc.  The entire pattern thus far has been to crochet in the "chain space"...but this appears to be telling me to crochet in the actual stitch?  Hope i didn't confuse you ...i'm just about done with this afghan and would really like to finish but want to be sure that I'm reading this right!  THANKS

Kathy:

Sorry for the delay. I did not see the question come in.

When it states "working in sts and chs across" it just mean you will work on any of the stitches per the pattern. So it could be a chain, or it could be a sc, etc etc.

Just follow the pattern and don't worry about that verbiage. So you would sc in first dc, do a ch1, then skip the next stitch, and do a sc on the following stitch, and a ch1. Go by that, not by what it stated at the beginning. This is just to tell you that you may be working on a dc, a ch or sc, etc etc.

Hope that helped. Should you need any assistance, please let me know.

Happy hooking
