Question
Hi

I need some help interpreting a crochet scarf pattern.  You begin with chaining 4, then row 1 is 6 dc in 4th ch from hook - that is all fine.

However, the beginning of the second row has me stumped - it reads ch5 (1tr & 1 ch); turn. Tr in first st (last dc of previous row).

It is the ch5 (1tr & 1 ch) that has me confused.

Can you help??

Kind regards

Elizabeth

Answer
Hey,Beth! Sory for the delay. but my computer has been down for over a week. I think we're ok now! To your question, the row 2 instructions are just telling you that the ch 5 will serve as your first tr, ch 1, so ch 5, turn & tr in the first stitch, which is the last dc of row 1.

If you need more help, just let me know.

Best wishes,
Bea

I consider myself an expert in the field of hand crochet. I have been crocheting for 45 years. I can answer most question on the differnt stitches, as well as the methods used to create speciality items. The art of crochet, after 2 decades of being out of fashion, is enjoying a modest come back. I want to help those newcomers looking for a little/lot of help to get started. Once they are comfortable with the process, they can relax & begin to create the heirlooms of tomorrow.
