Question
QUESTION: My mom & I are attempting to make a Rose Trellis Afghan from the back of a label on the yarn we bought. We are confused about the following piece of instructions needed to continue....
"Rnd 5: *(1sc, 6dc, 1sc)= we get that part, but then it says....
in next ch 4 sp, (that's the part we don't understand) then it says rep from * 7 times more, join. We get everything but that one little section..... "in next ch 4 sp" Can you help. I'm not sure if I go 4 spaces/or chains, then do the 1 sc, 6dc, 1sc in the 4 space or what. Or if I do the sc/dc/sc in the next chain then go 4 spaces and do it again. ANyway, hope I asked this clearly enough. Please help. Thank you, Patti

ANSWER: Hi Patti,
This usually means to make a sc, 6dc and a sc in the space (or loop) formed by chaining 4 in the previous round.  Apparently there are 7 loops, so you will end up with 8 shells made by the (1 sc, 6dc, 1 sc).

If this doesn't answer your question, please send me the instructions for the previous round.

QUESTION: Patricia:  I think I got it....and yes there is a chain from the previous round...so for clarity on my part....I would begin the sc,6dc,sc in the "4th space of the previous chain that was formed and then the next petal begins in the 4th space following that...etc.

Thanks again,
Patti

Answer
Patti,
You will make the shell (1sc, 6dc, 1 sc) over the enitre 4ch "loop", not just into an individual chain or stitch.  Then go to the next 4 chain loop and make another shell.  This will form your petals.

Let me know if you need more clarification.

Expertise

Traditional Crochet and Filet Crochet (not clothes) I do more thread crochet than yarn.

Experience

I have been crocheting for over 50 years. As a child growing up in New Orleans, LA, I had aunts and older cousins who taught me, but now they are all gone and sadly, there is no one who crochets in my area. I hope to be able to meet fellow crocheters through this website, and I'd be delighted if I could help someone answer a question. I'm sure I'll be asking my share, also. I specifically enjoy doilies and afghans. I really like designing filet crochet. I don't make clothes, other than hats and scarves.

Education/Credentials
I learned as a child in the 50's from aunts and older cousins.
