Question
Hello, Bernat has made available Around the Seasons afghan patterns for participating in their survey, and I am trying #8-winter, from the middle textures and round afghan. I am stuck on the instructions on 5th round. can't figure the repeat, and can't get any further. it states CL3, is this a cluster? I am quite confused. Can you help? Thanks in advance.

Here are the directions:

5th rnd: Sl st in each of next 3 dc. Ch 4
(counts as dc and ch 1). (1 dc. Ch 1. 1 dc)
in same sp as last sl st. *Ch 1. Miss next dc.
1 dc in next dc. Ch 1. Yoh and draw up a
loop in next dc. Yoh and draw through
2 loops on hook. Miss next st. Yoh and draw
up a loop in next dc. Yoh and draw through
2 loops on hook. Yoh and draw through all
3 loops on hook - CL3 made. Ch 1. 1 dc in
next dc. Ch 1. Miss next dc.** [(1 dc. Ch 1)
twice. 1 dc] in next dc. Rep from * 6 times
more, then from * to ** once. Join with
sl st to top of ch 3.

Answer
Lee:

Thanks for the question.

The CL3 is a type of cluster.

The instructions for the stitch are:

Yo and draw up a loop in next dc. Yo and draw through 2 loops on hook. Miss next st. Yo and draw up a loop in next dc. Yo and draw through 2 loops on hook. Yo and draw through all 3 loops on hook - CL3 made.

In this case you have two repeats, the one * is done 6 times, the ** is done once. In this case, the CL3 is just to inform you that a CL3 is made, probably later on in the pattern it will just states CL3, and here is where you would find how that is done.

Hope that helped. Should you need any assistance, please let me know.

Happy Hooking
